Chinese trains

I'm kind of giving up on the fight here in Carver in some ways, having lost the battle over the Purchase St solar project. Which was the thing that got me involved in watch dogging Town Hall in the first place. But since our town threw some great people under the bus, and then reversed back over them again, & one of my friends and allies in this fight sold his house and got out of dodge, that puts things in perspective. I was in the fight for them mostly, and we lost big. And my time can be better spent fighting against bigger fish, hopefully with better results.

But I do plan to follow up on the annual Town Meeting 2014 shooting down my "Buy American" amendment to the latest solar projects. In my opinion they did this by taking away my rights, and I plan to correct that in due time.

My latest efforts are at the state level, where I plan to fight the latest scam, the MBTA $500 million + contract for new Orange and Red Line trains to Chinese company CNR.

For my first post on the Chinese train scams, I share with you this tidbit of info that only scratches the surface. Losing bidder CSR will be building our trains, all profits going back to their parent company, the Peoples Republic of China (PRC)! Who may use some of that MBTA money, to help build their next ICBM, or maybe their next generation jet fighter.

Stay tuned as I do my best to prove that this contract is not only unethical, it's also illegal.

Buy American now 'Out of Order'?

On Monday June 16th 2014 I attended annual Town Meeting in Carver, Ma. I was particularly interested in Article 13:

Article 13

I was the second resident to speak on Article 13, and through the Town Moderator I offered an amendment:

Bringing prayer back to the Town of Carver

I want to thank Selectman Marrone for bringing prayer back to the Town of Carver.

Personally I'm probably not the most religious person to be commenting on this, but I have great respect for the faithful, and for the founding fathers of this country. The Founding Fathers were men of faith, who were guided by their deep religious convictions. Our Federal and State governments have hundreds of years of precedence of saying prayers at the beginning of meetings and sessions. After the US Supreme Court recently ruled that legislative bodies such as the Board of Selectmen can begin their meetings with prayer, there was no hesitation on the part of Selectmen Marrone to bring this issue forward for a vote.

New School Project

The town of Carver needs to completely refurbish the current one, or build a new elementary school, there is no question about it. The current school is rated 5th worst in the state, by the MSBA.

Previously there have been 3 town votes on this topic, and all have fallen short of getting enough votes to move forward. I've noticed over the years that the town is very divided on many issues, this being at the top of the list.

I support doing something to fix, or to build a new school. But I also understand that there are alot of folks in town that might not be able to afford a big property tax increase. Each dept. budget should have to cut back a little bit, maybe 2-4% where possible. The CPA should be reduced to 1% (from 3%) even temporarily, for a couple of years. Every little bit that could bring down the total project cost could help.

Common Core comes to Carver 1

Common Core comes to Carver 1: the unfunded mandates kick in

I'll be reporting on the local implementation of the Federal "Common Core State Standards" rollout this year. This may be starting out of order, but this first post is for the unfunded mandates which kick in for FY 2015. Later I'll circle back and write about some of the temporary benefits we received from the "Race to the Top" (aka RTTT) federal program.

the Competition heats up

Could the Town of Carver Planning Board fail to accomplish their stated goal?

They now have some competition that could prevent Carver for becoming "the Solar Capital of New England"

It's back! The Purchase St solar project

When the town of Carver ZBA voted against the project in 2013, some thought that was the end of the fight to keep industrial solar out of residential neighborhoods.

Apparently all it takes for them to get the project back online is to make a slight change to the original plan, which they did.
The Planning Board recently approved a minor modification that would allow the solar farm project on Purchase Street near Great Meadow Drive to go forward.
residents upset about new approval of a solar farm near their homes

Once again the Planning Board votes with the special interests over the residents of Carver. This is an industrial project that they approved in a Residential/Agriculture zone, which was never an approved use based on the town bylaws.

Letter: Working behind the scenes

This is my letter which was printed in the Carver Reporter on January 10th, 2014. Well most of it was printed, (without any notice) they removed the most important pieces. The three emails. Yes, I was censored.

Letter: Working behind the scenes

As a resident of Carver (and now a former member of the Carver Website Committee), I submitted a request for public information back in May 2013. This was for all emails sent to and by the former Town Administrator of Carver, Richard Lafond, and the Chairman of the Carver Website Committee, Stephen Dewhurst. This was a successful attempt to get access to all of the information that wasn’t yet made available, concerning the Website Committee history, policies and procedures, and goals. I want to share some of the responsive information that was provided by the Town of Carver.
In a letter shared on the Carver Reporter website on Nov 5th, 2013, Mr. Dewhurst made the following statement:

"Ms. Marrone read a prepared list of charges against the committee that were completely fabricated and provably false"

This was in reference to the October 23rd, 2012 Board of Selectmen meeting, which I attended while waiting to get the necessary Board of Selectmen approval to join the Website Committee. The truth is that many of these concerns have proven to be completely accurate.
